Opening Weekend for the Parade of Homes

The kick-off weekend for the Summit County Parade of Homes started this past Friday with the awards ceremony, and followed with a weekend full of excited attendees. We had a wonderful time talking with guests about the concepts and design of the Parade home we had the privilege to design from the ground up.

The home Design One Interiors entered this year was in the remodel category, due to the 4300 sq. ft. addition recently added to the original 6800 sq. ft. home. We are very happy to have been awarded 1st place in the Interior Aesthetics category, 2nd place in the Sustainability category, and 2nd place in Interior Alterations. The home was also given the Star Award by Mountain Living Magazine.

Everyone involved in this home was thrilled by the excitement and wonderful feedback we heard from Parade goers this past weekend! We counted over 1,000 people who toured this home over the past two days, and are excited to see the turn out for next weekend. Hope to see you there!

Mountain Modern vs. Old World

We recently were given the challenge of putting together two different design proposals for a condo renovation. This Breckenridge condo is owned by 5 different couples, but they couldn’t decide on what specific design style they all wanted in the unit. In order to assure everyone gets what they want out of the renovation Beverly and I have put together two separate set of selections for the owners to vote on and select. We are calling one “Mountain Modern” and the other design style “Old World”.

Keystone Remodel Project

Design One Interiors recently finished up remodeling a 2 bedroom 2 bath condo in the Argentine building located in Keystone CO. We were excited to help the owners of this unit update the 70′s style condo to a mountain contemporary vacation getaway.

A few of the things we did: replaced all casework & doors with new maple selections, installed all shaker style maple cabinetry in kitchen & both bathrooms, we used all natural stone for the flooring & shower walls, and we selected all stainless steel plumbing fixtures installed through out the unit. Both bathrooms also received new fans & additional lighting, as well as frame-less glass shower enclosures.

A Designer’s Diary – Getting Ready for The Parade of Homes!

We are excited to announce our entrance in the 2011 Summit County Parade of Homes. Beverly & the staff of Design One Interiors has been working on this beautiful home in Silverthorne for the better part of the last 3 years! And we are finally getting close to the completion of the 4,500 square foot addition which was added to the original home finished in the fall of 2009. As the details begin to fall into place our excitement grows for the unveiling of the home for the owners and for the attendees of the Parade of Homes this year! A Designer’s Diary – June Update

The last few weeks have been busy and exciting around the job site on our home addition project! Our very talented faux finisher has been working hard on adding texture and color to the walls, the custom cabinetry company installed their beautiful products, decorative electrical fixtures are beginning to be installed, and the tile work throughout the home is approaching completion. Enjoy some photos of the progress!

The faux finishers installing a shell wallpaper in our homeowner’s new feminine office space. This material was selected to add some shine, reflection, texture and color to the small office.

We chose a combination of open cabinetry and closed cabinetry to create interest, yet hide the necessary items in the new bar/kitchen area.

Here is a photo of one of the new unique bathrooms, this one is off of the game room. The vanity selected for this bathroom was a buffet that we are transforming into a double vanity with bronze vessel sinks and a granite top.

This photo is taken from a new dining/sitting area onto the three sided fireplace that anchors the new kitchen, living, and dining areas. We are able to finish off the fireplace without glass panes due to a complex venting system that removes all the harmful gases from entering the home.

A New Store Design from Starbucks

I recently came across this article about a new eco-friendly Starbucks location in Seattle. It is the first of its kind, and really grasps hold of the green movement from the reclaimed wood furnishings to the locally baked goodies. Most people either love Starbucks or can’t stand the corporate coffee scene, but this location hasn’t branded with that green circle logo we have become all to familiar with. The designers of this coffee shop have taken a completely different approach in the lighting fixtures, furniture, displays, and signage displayed through out the shop. It is always fun to see how the spaces & places we live in continue to be influenced by the environmentally conscious movement.

Summit County Home & Garden Expo

Thanks to a beautiful weekend of weather we had a great turn-out at the Home & Garden Expo this past weekend, which was held at the Silverthorne Pavilion. We are thankful for all of the support from the community towards their local businesses!

One piece of furniture that received too many comments to count was a teak wood root console table we had displayed in our space. It is a beautiful natural piece of root that has been crafted into a stunning table. Take a look at the photos and let us know if you like it as much as the attendees last weekend!

Beetle Kill Interior Finishes

Beetle kill in Summit County has been a large environmental issue in the past 5 years. As our forests continue to be killed by the mountain pine beetles contractors, designer, & loggers have found many uses for the dead pine trees. Design One Interiors recently discovered a Colorado based mill that only uses beetle kill lumber. Vintage Woods company has embraced the natural characteristics of the beetle kill and made it into beautiful decorative and architectural products for homes.

I recently was able to incorporate one of their products into a design proposal, and our clients loved it! The tongue and groove paneling added texture, pattern, color, and warmth to this clients home. These pictures are just a few examples of how to use these beetle kill lumber products. Designer’s Diary – The Progression

It has been a while since we have shared the recent progress of the large home addition we are working on in Silverthorne Colorado. The crew is working hard to finish the exterior siding and stone work on the home, despite the unusual windy weather they have made great progress! The exterior lights are in route and will add greatly to the finished curb appeal. Although the landscaping will be delayed until weather warms up later this spring, the home is coming together both inside and out.
